Fishing Events
Our President Bill Justice encourages participation promptly re: the following article....
On June 11, 2008, members of the NC Congressional Delegation, introduced bills (HR 6233 & S 3113) to set aside the recently enacted consent decree that has virtually eliminated your access to Cape Hatteras National Seashore Recreational Area. The bill will set aside the consent decree and resume resource management as developed by NPS & USFWS -“The Interim Plan”. This plan was developed and instituted to guide the NPS until conclusion of the on-going Negotiated Rulemaking process and allows local NPS management to make the necessary decisions to protect wildlife while guaranteeing access to the public.
A critical phase in the future of beach access has been reached and I must ask each of you to step-up and participate – now! This means today! Congress will soon go into summer recess and recess again in the fall for elections. We must have these bills passed before the fall recess.
First: A letter of thanks is due to: Senators Richard Burr and Elizabeth Dole and Congressman Walter Jones, Jr. for introducing this much needed legislation.
Second: Contact your senators and representatives and ask them to support HR 6233 & S 3113. (This does not only apply to NC residents, this is a national issue and needs the support of the entire congress.) Plead with your members of congress to drop all partisan politics and unanimously support the prompt passage of this legislation.
This is an election year, tell them where you live, so they know that you vote in their district. Ask them to Co-Sponsor and support HR 6233 & S 3113 that are so important to eastern NC and the whole state that relies on the tourist dollars that flow from this region to the rest of the state. Thank them for their help.
The contact info for all state delegations is posted for quick access, all other addresses can be found at:https://forms.house.gov/wyr/welcome.shtml US House Members http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm US SenatorsUS mail (subject to inspection) may take up to 30 days, fax is the quickest, e-mail is the least effective and may not get personal attention. A phone call requires someone to answer and a personal visit to the local office is most effective.
No matter how you make contact, do it NOW!Representing all of our members…“Supporting Recreational ORV Access”……..

The annual "Take a Kid Fishing" celebration was held at Assateague Island State Park on June 14th. AMSA was there to instruct children the basics of surf fishing, which included bait cutting, rigging, casting and even catching fish and returning the fish safely to the ocean.
The event was a great success again this year with 40-50 kids participating. In addition to surf fishing, they enjoyed the artifact displays, soap carving and an Assateague animal display. The children that were there for the event had an opportunity to enjoy a drink and hot dog from the AMSA cook trailer. As always, the best hot dogs on the planet were thanks to Warren & Rose Ellen Owens and Morris & Margie Avery.
There was a tie for first place with 13" kingfish between Courtney Swearengen and Samuel Coates, both winning a tackle box full of gear from the Ocean-Atlantic fishing pier. There was a tie for second place with 12" kingfish between Caleb Welsh and Wrenna Fine, both winning a hat from Malibus and four tickets to a Shorebirds game.
Thanks to all those who volunteered their time to help the kids including, our AMSA President Bill Justice, Ron & Michelle Humphress, Doug Jones, John Welch, Matt Wilkins, Jeff Thomas, Wayne Anders, Ron & Mina Engle and Mike & Natalie Layton. Also, thank you to the Junior Members that helped Erica Anders, Allison Anders and Caleb Welch.
