AMSA Representatives Attend the Centenial Challenge
AMSA President Bill Justice along with AMSA Vice President Howard Quillen visited Washington DC on April 24, 2008 taking part in the Centennial Challenge Celebration held on the West Steps of US Capitol Building. Afterwards AMSA took part in second ceremony held at the Department of Interior office building where AMSA was thanked by both Secretary of Interior Kempthorne and NPS Director Mary Bomar for being partners with the National Park Service with the donation to fund the aquarium project in the new Assateague Island visitor's center.
AMSA was also in attendance for the ground breaking for the center on Jan. 28, 2008 at which time AMSA presented a check for $50,000.00 to the National Park Service.
The donation qualified for matching funds set aside by the program announced by President Bush under the Centennial Challenge Program several months ago. This allowed Assateague Island National Seashore to have $100,000 for the Aquarium project, of which AMSA is the sole sponsor. The National Park Service will celebrate their 100th birthday in the year 2016 and the Centennial Challenge program is preparing them for this event in 2016.
